When these two stones came together, they sparked a creative breakthrough for me and opened up a new direction in my work.
The centerpiece is a 12.5 ct cat-eye Tourmaline from Minas Gerais, Brazil, with vivid green color and a strong chatoyant effect. It is paired with a 4 ct Rhodochrosite from Argentina, bringing a rich pink into contrast with the green of the Tourmaline.
I wanted to build a piece that allowed both stones to have a strong presence while bringing their colors together as one composition. The result was Watermelon #1—the first piece in what became a new direction for my work.
